AI is concerned about the apparent arbitrary detention on political grounds of Teudo Mordan Geronimo; two court orders have been made for his release but the police authorities reportedly refuse to release him. Seventeen other prisoners reportedly remain in detention despite court orders for their release. Some were apparently detained on suspicion of criminal acts; however Teudo Mordan Geronimo and another prisoner, Luis Lizardo Cabrera, are believed to be held on suspicion of political offences. Their continued detention is reported to be on direct instructions from President Balaguer.
