Colombia: The Human Rights Situation in Colombia: Amnesty International’s written statement to the 22nd session of the UN Human Rights Council

This statement presents an overview of Amnesty International’s concerns in Colombia and recommendations to the UN Human Rights Council. These concerns include human rights violations by security forces, guerrilla groups and paramilitaries. Government support for several legislative reforms raises doubts about its commitment to end impunity. Thousands of Indigenous persons are forcibly displaced every year and women are subjected to sexual violence by all parties to the armed conflict. Human rights defenders, community leaders and trade unionists continue to suffer attacks and persecution.
