Bolivia: The need to protect Human Rights Defenders

This document reports on the continuing attacks, threats and intimidation of human rights defenders in Bolivia. It documents a number of cases of human rights defenders – including those who work in rural areas and with indigenous and peasant communities – who have been the target of serious violations, including torture, ill-treatment and arbitrary detention. It also includes a case of the violent obstruction of the Ombudsperson’s work. There is a particular concern that although the attacks and threats have been denounced to the Bolivian authorities the investigations do not seem to have made any progress.
