Sudan: Prisoner of conscience / fear of torture: Samira Hassan Ali Karrar

Samira Hassan Ali Karrar, a prominent human rights activist arrested on 25 January 1997, is being detained without charge in Omdurman Women’s Prison. She is a prisoner of conscience and there are fears she may be at risk of torture and ill-treatment. It is thought she may have been detained in an attempt to prevent a demonstration on the anniversary of the execution of 28 army officers.
