Mutasim Mahmoud, news editor of the independent daily newspaper, Al-Sudani al-Doulia, was arrested on 24 February 1994. There is concern that he may be subjected to torture or ill-treatment in custody, and that he may be a prisoner of conscience. His place of detention is unknown.
