Ghana: ‘When we sleep, we don’t sleep’: Living under the threat of forced eviction in Ghana

In Old Fadama, Ghana’s biggest informal settlement, between 55,000 and 79,000 people live without security of tenure and under constant threat of forced eviction. Thousands of people living and working next to railway lines across Ghana are to be evicted to make way for redevelopment of the railway system. Ghana laws do not provide adequate protection against forced eviction and the authorities have failed to put in place safeguards to prevent people being forcibly evicted in violation of their human rights.
