Europe: Partners in crime: Europe’s role in US renditions

Europe’s governments have repeatedly denied their complicity in the US programme of renditions – an unlawful practice in which numerous men have been illegally detained and secretly flown to countries where they have suffered additional crimes, including torture. This report focuses on six cases of rendition. All involve men being bundled onto planes and transferred abroad, without due process, to places of detention where they have suffered abuse. The report highlights the role of various European states and shows how the action or lack of action by these states contravened their obligations under domestic and international law.
