Universal Periodic Review 2009

The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is the first ever United Nations (UN) mechanism to look systematically at the human rights records of all countries.The fifth session runs from 4 to 15 May 2009.

The UN Human Rights Council will examine the human rights records of 16 states. Countries examined in February include Afghanistan, Chile, FYR Macedonia, Slovakia, Vanuatu, Vietnam, and Yemen.

Amnesty International has issued a series of reports detailing key human rights concerns in 7 of the 16 countries that are up for review at the fifth session of the UPR Working Group:  



The fourth session ran from 2 to 13 February 2009.

The UN Human Rights Council examined the governments of 16 countries on their human rights records. Countries examined in February included China, Cuba, Germany, Mexico, Nigeria, the Russian Federation and Saudi Arabia.
