Recent months have seen a further tightening of controls and increasing harassment of Tunisian human rights defenders, stifling precisely the rights and freedoms of expression and information which the World Summit on the Information Society is intended to promote. Amnesty International urges the Tunisian authorities to take effective steps to improve the human rights situation and bring practices into line with Tunisian law and international human rights treaties which the Tunisian government has ratified.
