Iraq: Submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review: Seventh session of the UPR Working Group of the Human Rights Council, February 2010

In this submission, Amnesty International provides information as stipulated in the General Guidelines for the Preparation of Information under the Universal Periodic Review. Amnesty International raises concerns over shortcomings in national legislation and national institutions to promote and protect human rights. The organization also raises concerns about human rights violations, specifically the extensive use of the death penalty, prolonged detention without charge or trial, torture and other ill-treatment, and unfair trials.
