Iran: Submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review: Seventh session of the UPR Working Group of the Human Rights Council, February 2010

In this submission, Amnesty International provides information as stipulated in the General Guidelines for the Preparation of Information under the Universal Periodic Review. Amnesty International expresses concern about articles in the Iranian Penal Code that are used by authorities to suppress freedom of expression and association. The organization also expresses concerns about a continuing pattern of serious human rights violations, including the extensive use of the death penalty, torture; excessive use of force, unfair trials and legislation which discriminates against women.
