Zafer Kirbiyik, a student aged 24, was detained in Mersin on 12 September 1995 and has "disappeared" in police custody. AI fears that he may be subjected to torture. He was one of 21 people detained in Ankara in April 1994 in connection with the legal magazine Alinteri. He was detained again in December 1994 for putting up posters for Alinteri. In February 1995 he was sentenced in absentia to 12 years imprisonment and the same day a warrant was issued for his arrest.
