Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) solidarity organizations in Turkey have fought a long campaign for equality before the law. There is no law in Turkey which explicitly prohibits discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity. Discriminatory statements by public officials and in the media lead to an official toleration of homophobia and transphobia. In this report, Amnesty International shows what the lack of anti-discrimination legislation means in the daily lives of people from this community in Turkey.
