In this document Amnesty International calls on the Swedish authorities to re-open the case of Osmo Vallo for further investigation and to initiate a comprehensive review of all recent deaths in custody. AI is concerned about a number of issues surrounding the disputed circumstances of the death in police custody of Osmo Vallo, a 41-year-old man, reportedly drunk and under the influence of drugs when he was approached by two police officers, in May 1995. There are great discrepancies between the account of the incident given by witnesses and that of the police.
