Norway: Possible imprisonment of conscientious objector Frederic Hauge

Frederic Hauge, co-founder of the Bellona Foundation, an environmental and pacifist organization, has been sentenced to 90 days’ imprisonment for refusing to perform military service. He was due to start serving his sentence on 25 September 1995, but the date has been postponed pending a government re-evaluation of the case. Frederic Hauge is a conscientious objector, and if he is imprisoned Amnesty International will consider him to be a prisoner of conscience.
