Nguyen Huu Hai, aged 56, has been detained in “re-education” camps since June 1975. He is currently held in Ham Tan camp, Thuan Hai province. He is said to suffer from hypertension and from occasional chest pains and oedema in the legs. He is also said to show signs of depression and stress. Nguyen Huu Hai was formerly a Deputy Commissioner of Police and a military police officer in South Viet Nam during the Viet Nam War.
