Ramon D Amican, a farmer and captain of his barangay (subdistrict), was abducted by armed men from his home in Camarines Sur province on 15 February 1993. He has not been seen since then. Druing the weeks before his abduction, residents had become alarmed by increased military activity in the area. Military officials and spokesmen for the armed opposition New People’s Army denied knowledge of the abduction in a broadcast on 18 February. There is grave concern for his safety.
