In this letter, Amnesty International notes the announcement that the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) intends to recruit 230 new members and urges the Government to use this new recruitment drive to increase the representation of women in the force. At present, although the National Goals and Directive Principles contained in the Constitution call for equal participation of women in all aspects of the life of the country, women make up as little as 6 percent of the RPNGC.
