Pakistan: Children's action update 2: Salamat Masih and Rehmat Masih are acquitted

On 23 February 1995, Salamat Masih and Rehmat Masih were acquitted of the charge of blasphemy, overturning a death sentence imposed on them on 9 February. AI welcomes their acquittal. However, the organization continues to be concerned for the safety of others involved in the case, including lawyers, family members, judges and human rights activists, who, according to reports, have been threatened. AI continues to urge the Government of Pakistan to introduce legislation which would prevent further abuse of the blasphemy law and such miscarriages of justice.
