In this report, Amnesty International expresses its deep concern about the escalating number of "disappearances" taking place in the context of counter-insurgency operations by the security forces. The document includes background information, conclusions and recommendations and calls upon the Nepali government to investigate and clarify the fate and whereabouts of the "disappeared", bring perpetrators to justice and pay compensation to relatives, as well as to strengthen the institutional and legal frameworks needed to prevent such abuses from occurring in the future. This report is also a briefing for the UN Working Group on Enforced and Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID).
