Tou Chhom Mongkol, Editor-in-Chief of Antarakhum (“Intervention”) newspaper died on 11 June 1994 in hospital from head injuries received the day before. It is thought he may have been killed in connection with articles printed in the newspaper which were critical of the government. On 24 March 1994 a hand grenade was thrown into the Antarakhum office in Phnom Penh, wounding five people. There are fears for the safety of two editors whom he met shortly before his death, and for other staff at the newspaper.
