This document highlights some of the common patterns of human rights violations affecting foreigners detained in Japan. Many of the human rights concerns expressed by AI also apply to Japanese citizens in custody. It includes some recommendations to the Japanese Government to take steps to end all forms of ill-treatment in places of detention.
