Indonesia: Open letter from Amnesty International to President Suharto on the occasion of the May 1997 parliamentary elections

In this open letter to the President, Amnesty International is urging him to ensure freedom of expression and association during the parliamentary election process. Concern is expressed at the recent imprisonment of twelve members of the People Democratic Party as prisoners of conscience and the continuing arrest and detention of individuals engaged in peaceful political activities.
