According to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Husein Dzhelil is not facing imminent execution. A Ministry spokesperson told the news agency Reuters that "Husein is a Chinese citizen suspected of having taken part in East Turkestan terrorist activities." According to the spokesperson, no verdict has been reached in his case, implying that Husein Dzhelil is on trial in secret on charges related to "terrorism". Amnesty International fears that any legal proceedings are likely to be unfair, and he is at risk of torture and ill-treatment.
