Bangladesh: Human rights safeguards

This reports consists of an open letter to the main political parties and alliances contesting the elections in Bangladesh, urging them to make known their positions on human rights and to implement various human rights safeguards should they come to power. It outlines Amnesty International’s concerns in Bangladesh, which are: ratification of human rights instruments; administrative detention under the Special Powers Act of 1974; review of cases of martial law convicts; prevention of torture; extrajudicial executions and abolition of the death penalty.
