This document looks at the revival of cruel and unusual punishments, such as amputation and flogging, in Afghanistan since the ending of the Soviet occupation of the country. Execution for the crime of sodomy is particularly brutal. Amnesty International is concerned that Taleban courts are imposing sentences and denying those sentenced the right to a fair trial.
