USA: Amnesty International’s briefing to the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

This briefing focuses on concerns raised in the course of Amnesty International’s work since the Committee’s consideration of the USA’s Initial Report in August 2001. These include racial disparities in law enforcement and the criminal justice system; discriminatory treatment of non-US nationals held by the US military in the so-called “war on terror”; the government’s failure to protect indigenous women from sexual violence; and concerns about the treatment of displaced residents of New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
