USA: Urgent need for transparency on Bagram detentions

A US federal judge considering the question of whether detainees held by the USA in Bagram air base in Afghanistan may challenge the lawfulness of their detention before courts in the USA has ordered the US administration to provide him, by 11 March 2009, with updated information on the Bagram detainees. Amnesty International is calling on the new administration to ensure that the USA adopts laws and policies on detentions fully consistent with its international obligations, not just its constitutional precedents and its legal traditions.
