Amnesty International is submitting this briefing to the Human Rights Committee ahead of its examination of Guatemala’s third periodic report on the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The document highlights Amnesty International’s concerns in Guatemala in relation to a number of questions on the Committee’s list of issues to be taken up in connection with its consideration of the state report. These concerns include disappearances, violence against women, the death penalty, protection of human rights defenders and forced evictions of Indigenous peoples.
