Amnesty International continues to receive reports of serious threats and attacks on human rights defenders in Central America and Mexico. Recent cases include the harassment of the Human Rights Procurator, Dr Victoria Velasquez de Aviles, and staff members of the Centre for the Promotion of Human Rights "Madeleine Lagadec" in El Salvador; the intimidation of staff at the Centre for Legal Action for Human Rights (CALDH) and attacks on trade unionist Victor Hugo Duran Guerra in Guatemala; the harassment of members of the non-governmental human rights organization COFADEH and members of the office of the National Commissier for the Protection of Human Rights in Honduras; and the abduction, harassment and torture of many human rights defenders in Mexico.
