Categories: Eritrea, Africa
This report documents detentions over the past year, related to criticism of or opposition to the Government. These detentions are placed in the context of political developments and the human rights situation, including previous secret detentions and "disappearances", since independence (1991). The report concludes with Amnesty International's recommendations to the Government of Eritrea to release prisoners of conscience, to end secret incommunicado detention, to try fairly or release other political prisoners, and to bring Eritrea's laws and practices into line with international human rights standards.
