Zambia is scheduled to appear before the Human Rights Commitee in March 1996 to present its second periodic report concerning its obligations under the ICCPR. This document examines Zambia's human rights record in this context. It details the cases of two journalist prisoners of conscience. More than 200 prisoners remain under the death sentence. Torture in prisons and police custody is widespread. It concludes by making a series of recommendations to the Zambian government.
