Sudan: Briefing to International Referendum Observers

In the lead up to the referendum on self-determination of southern Sudan, scheduled for 9 January 2011, Amnesty International calls on international referendum observers to include human rights monitoring as a key component of their brief. The referendum is a key milestone in the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) that ended more than two decades of civil war in Sudan. The recommendations included in the briefing document are aimed to allow monitors to carry out an integrated monitoring of the referendum and human rights.
