This guide describes the mandate and functions of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) of Liberia and outlines Amnesty International's main recommendations to the Liberian government and to the TRC itself. Its main aim is to promote awareness of the TRC process and of Amnesty International's recommendations among Liberian non-governmental organizations, media and the general public. Amnesty International believes that the TRC can play an important role in addressing the human rights violations committed since 1979. It can provide a full account of these abuses; contribute to their investigation; prevent their repetition; and ensure that victims are granted reparation.
