In addition, cardiac patient Sha’aban Abu ‘Obeid underwent a successful operation in Gaza after the Israeli military authorities permitted an Israeli cardiac surgeon into the territory. Tayseer al-Qanou’ has given up trying to access treatment and remains in Gaza without specialized care.

Another four of the critically ill patients named above - Karima Abu Dalal, Rami al-Masri, Rami al-Arouqi and Sameer Taleb – are hoping to be permitted to leave Gaza for treatment in Egypt in the next few days by travelling on a shuttle bus through Israel. Karima Abu Dalal has had numerous requests to be treated in Israel rejected, most recently on 30 March 2008.

Amnesty International has received no new information regarding Bassam al-Oehidi.
