Hussein ‘Atawi, Abbas ‘Awada and Zeinab ‘Abd al-Majid al-Surur have all now been released from Khiam Detention Centre.


Hussein ‘Atawi was released on 26 February 2000. According to media reports he was immediately taken for medical tests to the Naqura field hospital of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), for whom he works as a cook.


All were arrested by the South Lebanon Army (SLA) in their villages between 24 and 26 January and taken to Khiam, the main SLA detention and interrogation centre in Israeli-occupied south Lebanon.


Amnesty International has not been able to get any further information about Hussein ‘Ali Qasem.
