Amnesty International to publish report on Kazakhstan torture record

When: Thursday 11 July 2013

Amnesty International is publishing a report exposing the unwillingness of the Kazakhstani authorities to fulfil their pledges to the international community to eradicate torture and fully investigate the lethal force by police.

The report, Old habits: The routine use of torture and other ill-treatment in Kazakhstan, calls for an independent international investigation into the use of lethal force by security forces in Zhanaozen in December 2011 when at least 15 people were killed and more than 100 seriously by security forces.
