GREECE:Iakobos Mathioudakis (aged 19)

Amnesty International has learned that conscientious objector Iakobobos Mathioudakis was released from prison on 13 September by Athens Military Court who granted him a two-year postponement from military service on grounds of poor health. This means that he will not be called up to perform military service for two years.

Iakobos Mathioudakis, an adopted prisoner of conscience, had been in Avlona Military Prison since March after he refused to perform compulsory military service on religious grounds. As a Jehovah's Witness he is opposed to any type of military service. Iakobos Mathioudakis is suffering from acute depression and recently spent three weeks in a military hospital for his condition.

No further action is necessary. Thank you very much to all of those who sent appeals.
