MALAYSIA Sajad Hussain Wani (m), Pakistani national

On 9 November Sajad Hussain Wani was released after being held illegally by immigration authorities. During his detention he was beaten and burnt with cigarettes. At the hearing of Sajid Hussain Wani’s petition for habeas corpus (The legal writ which challenges the lawfulness of an arrest) on 9 November the judge ruled that his detention was illegal and he should be released immediately.

    Sajad Hussain Wani was arrested on 2 October 2007 by immigration authorities after a complaint lodged by his former girlfriend’s family. He was held at the Sepang detention camp, near Kuala Lumpur international airport for 35 days until his release. Sajad Hussain Wani is a Pakistan national studying for a Master of Business Administration in Malaysia.
