CHINA Li Heping (m), human rights lawyer

Beijing-based human rights lawyer, Li Heping has recovered from the assault and does not appear to be at further risk. His lawyer’s license was renewed in November 2007.

Li Heping was abducted and assaulted by a group of 12 unidentified men outside the law firm where he works, on 29 September. They took him to an unknown location, beat him for several hours with electro-shock batons and told him he should leave Beijing and stop taking on human rights cases or risk further attack.

Amnesty International is monitoring his situation and will take further campaigning action as necessary.

Many thanks to all those who sent appeals. No further action is requested from the UA network.
