URGENT ACTION HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISTS RELEASED IN CUBA Between 24 and 26 September, all the Ladies in White who were detained between 21 and 24 September in Havana were released. Between 21 and 24 September, around 50 members of the Ladies in White (Damas de Blanco) travelled from different provinces of Cuba to attend a four-day event in Havana, and were arrested on their way to the event. On the morning of the 25 September, another 18 Ladies in White were arrested in Havana.
By 26 September, all the women detained during this crackdown were released and are now free. The members of the Ladies in White who were travelling from provinces to Havana were all brought back to their provinces. None of them have been charged.
Harassment against the Ladies in White and other activists promoting freedom of expression and freedom of association continues in Cuba. Amnesty International will continue to monitor the situation closely, and will take further action as appropriate.
