EU responsible mineral sourcing regulation: Civil society response to the Council mandate agreed by Coreper on 17 December 2015

The trade in resources – such as gold, diamonds, tantalum, tin, cobalt and coal – perpetuates a cycle of conflict and human rights abuses in many fragile areas of the world. This briefing sets out a response from Amnesty International and civil society coalition partners to the proposal put forward by the European Council, made up of EU Member States. It explains why the Council’s proposal fails to offer an effective response to the problem.
