Belarus: Death penalty concerns in Belarus must be addressed. Oral intervention at the UN Human Rights Council 20th Session

In this statement Amnesty International highlights its concerns about the retention of the death penalty by Belarus and its application in disregard of even the most fundamental internationally recognised safeguards. The organization calls on the UN Human Rights Council to address these egregious violations of the right to life in its deliberations on the human rights situation in the country. This statement is based on Amnesty International’s written statement to the 20th session of the Human Rights Council: “The human rights situation in Belarus,” UN index: A/HRC/20/NGO/51 of 13 June 2012 https://www.amnesty.org/en/documents/eur49/006/2012/en/
