Belarus and Uzbekistan: The Last Executioners: The trend towards abolition in the former Soviet space

This report provides information and case studies about the abolition of the death penalty in the former Soviet space. Belarus and Uzbekistan are the only countries that still execute prisoners on death row. Of the other newly independent states, nine have now abolished the death penalty and four countries have moratoria in place. There are many prisoners currently on death row in territories with moratoria on executions in place and Amnesty International is concerned about the conditions in which they are held.
