Pakistan: Human rights and justice – the key to lasting security: Amnesty International submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review

In this submission, Amnesty International comments on the implementation of recommendations that Pakistan supported during its previous UPR in April 2008. The organization remains concerned about the absence of constitutional human rights protections for the people in FATA and the enactment of legislation giving discretionary powers to security forces in fighting Taleban insurgency. The organization is also concerned about ongoing discrimination against religious minorities and violence against women. Amnesty International is alarmed at the rising numbers of targeted attacks on journalists.
