USA: Guantánamo, impunity, and global anti-torture day

For the past 16 and a half years, the USA has been operating a detention regime at its naval base in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba that is entirely antithetical to its international law obligations, including those it undertook to abide by under UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. The current US President, Donald Trump, has openly expressed his support for torture and espoused expansion of this detention regime. These are dangerous times for human rights. The international community must speak out.
