Qatar: Further information: Life in prison for writing poetry: Mohammed al-Ajami
Qatari poet Mohammed al-Ajami, detained since November 2011, was sentenced to life imprisonment on 29 November 2012 for offences that relate to his poems. He appears to be a prisoner of conscience, convicted solely for the peaceful exercise of his right to freedom of expression.
