Bahrain: Fear of torture / legal concern: 'Ali Hassan Yusuf
'Ali Hassan Yusuf, a well-known Shi'a Muslim writer and poet, aged 40, was arrested on 16 February 1997 at his home in Jidd Hafs. The exact reasons for his arrest are unknown, but it is believed to be connected with the recent publication of a collection of his poetry. He is currently being detained incommunicado and there is concern that he is at risk of torture or ill-treatment.
