2004 UN Commission on Human Rights. Mission: To Promote and Protect Human Rights
Promotion and protection of human rights are among the key functions of the Commission on Human Rights and yet there are human rights situations which the Commission fails to address. In this report Amnesty International calls on member states to consider fundamental reform to the Commission's working methods to enable it to take effective action to end grave violations of human rights. The report also presents recommendations in respect to issues such as ending violence against women and abolition of the death penalty. The report also examines human rights violations in specific regions and countries currently on the Commission's agenda.
