Serbia: Briefing to the Human Rights Committee
In this document Amnesty International raises concerns on the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights by Serbia. These concerns include the climate of impunity which prevails, in particular for enforced disappearances during the armed conflict in Kosovo. Measures need to be taken to ensure prohibition of torture in practice, the accountability of law enforcement and prison officers and to address impunity for past violations. Other concerns are about freedom of expression and human rights defenders as well as Serbia’s continued failure to guarantee rights to Roma without discrimination.
